Cocktails, Conversations, and Connections – Challenge yourself to grow
The Cambridge English Dictionary describes the word challenge; as ” a situation that needs significant mental or physical effort to be done successfully and therefore tests a person’s ability.”
One of the closest synonyms of ‘challenge’ is; test. Some antonyms of ‘challenge’ are ‘stop,’ ‘avoid’ or ‘dodge.’ So if we are not challenging ourselves to grow, it means we are avoiding, dodging or stopping growth.
Challenging yourself to grow requires tossing excuses away and setting yourself on the road to awesome.
It means setting goals that are bigger and greater than any goal or dreams that we can ever think of achieving and deliberately setting out to accomplish these goals.
We have always been taught to set realistic or achievable goals; I know I have done this myself. But setting goals that one feels can be achieved quite easily, is a surefire way to live a mediocre life.
Henry Ward Beecher captured the journey of growth when he said ” hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anybody else expects of you. Never excuse yourself”.
Challenging yourself will bring to the fore, the potential, skills, abilities, qualities and knowledge that you already possess.
Challenging yourself will stretch you and equip you to do bigger and greater things that you previously only ever dreamed or was even too scared to dream about achieving.
Challenging yourself will empower you to greatness and lead you on the surefire way to awesomeness.
Challenging yourself will cause you to develop new skills, abilities, qualities and knowledge that you thought were impossible.
